Basalto 14 — Residential, Lomas de Chapultepec

Concept

On a sloped lot surrounded by mature trees, the challenge was to anchor the house to the terrain without felling the existing grove. The project responds with a stepped volume that follows the topography and opens patios at every level.

Architecture

Three stepped levels sit directly on the site's contour lines, avoiding massive earthwork. Each level sets back from the one below, creating landscaped terraces.

Materials

Exposed concrete, local basalt stone on retaining walls, and parota wood joinery throughout the interiors.

Interiors

A neutral palette with warm wood and linen accents; indirect lighting that highlights the concrete's texture.

Outcome

A semi-sunken pool that converses with the volcanic-stone façade, visible from the main living room.
